Hi!

I have never heard anyone who have IrDA on an Asus 7300 working so here are
my tips:

Set the IR config to SIR, 0x2f8, IRQ3 in the IO-config section in the
BIOS-setup util.

If you use PCMCIA you also need to add "exclude irq 3, irq 4, irq 5" in
/etc/pcmcia/config.opts (may not be same on your system)

Then do this (for 2.2.13-irda3 or 2.3.28) with irda-utils 0.9.5 installed
(you must have this version 0.9.4 will NOT do):

setserial /dev/ttyS1 uart 16550A
insmod irda
insmod irtty
...insmod other irda-modules as needed (ircomm etc)
irattach /dev/ttyS1 -s 1

If you have an older kernel you can probably get things working too, but you
are on your own then!
