[Linux-IrDA]Being clueless - please help

Can somone tell me what tools I need to compile 2.3.x ? I'm trying to
build 2.3.24 with gcc 2.7.2.3 binutils 2.9.1 and I can't get it to build
bootsect.s (It's 3 bytes to big ) making "Loading" shorter gets it to build
but then it crashes when LILO hands over control.
