At least myself had trouble with a IBM thinkpad 600E. When using the irtty
driver for SIR mode, I'd to boot windows once to enable the infrared LED. If
windows was not booted before, irdadump even shows the discovery packages
generated by the computer but the infrared LED in the Thinkpad won't light
up. You can try to check this for example with a CCD camera.
