Have you read irda-utils-0.9.9/irattach/README? You can also find some info
on the hardware pages for devices using IrCOMM:

To hotsync the Pilot using the pilot-link utils, you should just do:
cd sync-dir
pilot-xfer -p /dev/ircomm0 -s .
