Have you enabled the IrDA port in the BIOS? What is the excact output of
findchip -v? Can you also do "echo 2 > /proc/sys/net/irda/debug" and sent
me the dmesg output when you try to insert the nsc-ircc module.

Yes you can use SIR, but since the chip doesn't detect OK for you, then you
can try to use "irattach /dev/ttyS1 -s" instead. PPP is used over IrCOMM.
