Hi all,

I am trying to use the "w83977af_ir.o" driver in linux version 2.2.15pre17.
I am using the findchip utility that comes irda-utils-0.9.10

I have a motherboard with one of these chips on it.

This markings on the chip packaging are as follows

    Winbond
    W83977AF-A
    (c) AM.MEGA.87-96
    823CS281918902

According to the datasheet, the meaning of the last line is

    823 - 1998 week 23
    C - IC revision
    S - assembly house : SPIL (?)
2 - wafers manufactured in Winbond FAB 2
81918902 - wafer production series lot number

(don't you feel better for knowing that ! :)

Findchip would not recognise the chip initially
but I found that there was some code that was commented
out, along with a message saying:

>if you have one of these chips, please mail me an output of
>"findchip -d -v WINBOND".

I am not sure who the author of the comment was, but
here is the findchip output as requested:

>bash# findchip -d -v WINBOND
>Probing for EFER at 0x03f0 ...
>hefras = 0x00
>EFER seems to be probed at 0x03f0
>chip id = 0x97, revision = 0x71
>Device Revision 0x97 : W83977F/AF is detected!
> TX DMA is inactive, or single DMA mode
> RX->TX Turn around delay(4 char time) is disabled
> TX->RX Turn around delay(4 char time) is disabled
> Bank selection si enabled.
>Found WINBOND W83977F/AF Controller at 0x3f0, DevID=0x97, Rev. 113
> SIR Base 0x3f8, FIR Base 0x3f8
> IRQ = 3, DMA = 1
> Enabled: yes, Suspended: no
> UART compatible: yes
> Half duplex delay = -1073743324 us

best regards
