I suggest that you do your homework yourself (this does sound a lot like
an exercise I gave my students in an operating system course this spring 
- are you one of my students?), rather than bothering an otherwise
unrelated mailing-list.

However being the good teacher I am, I will give you a clue: check Andrew
S. Tannenbaum's book "Distributed Operating System" chapter 4. There's no
shortcut to knowledge (there may be to information, but that's another
matter) - so just dig in....
