I have an Ericsson DI27 IR modem attached to a T18s mobile phone. My Palm IIIx is able to browse the Web with this, and I've been trying to persuade my Mandrake Linux 7 box to do the same via a Girbil dongle. Using irda-utils and Ove Ewerlid's config script (from the HowTo) I've been able to HotSync my Palm through /dev/ircomm (which I made by doing "mknod /dev/ircomm c 60 64" without problems, but when I try to start ppp-on it falls over - this from /var/log/messages: Aug 2 20:15:23 Insight kernel: PPP: version 2.3.7 (demand dialling) Aug 2 20:15:23 Insight kernel: PPP line discipline registered. Aug 2 20:15:23 Insight kernel: registered device ppp0 Aug 2 20:15:23 Insight pppd[701]: pppd 2.3.10 started by root, uid 0 Aug 2 20:15:24 Insight chat[703]: Can't get terminal parameters: Inappropriate ioctl for device Aug 2 20:15:24 Insight pppd[701]: Connect script failed Aug 2 20:15:25 Insight pppd[701]: Exit. I upgraded to irda-utils 0.9.9 and applied patch-2.2.14-irda1 to my 2.2.14 kernel. I did mknod /dev/ircomm0 c 161 0 etc. and added stuff to /etc/conf.modules as suggested in the literature, and tried again, pointing ppp at /dev/ircomm0 this time. Still no joy, and this from /var/log/messages: Aug 2 20:18:46 Insight pppd[711]: pppd 2.3.10 started by root, uid 0 Aug 2 20:18:46 Insight pppd[711]: Failed to open /dev/ircomm0: No such device Aug 2 20:18:46 Insight pppd[711]: Exit. Irdaping and irdadump suggest that the dongle can see the DI27. I've fiddled and fettled and RTFM'd until I'm blue in the face, and I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong - it's probably something really simple and obvious, in which case I apologise, but I'm no kernel hacker and I'm totally stuck. Can anyone help? Am I being really stupid? Thanks, -- Scott Berry [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Do they know about FUN in England?" "Yes, but it's considered very poor taste to have any." _______________________________________________ Linux-IrDA mailing list - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www4.pasta.cs.UiT.No/mailman/listinfo/linux-irda
