A solution to problem 2 was actually already on the list...

sorry for that.
This makes the IrDA connection work without errors but ppp packets seem
to have
a rough time getting through. It seems that the connection actually
filters some
characters. Not even the linux-mandrake /etc/issue content seem to get
through unscrambled...
I had limited success using the following ppp options: (causes the ppp
link to come up but cannot ping or do anything else)
crtscts
default-asyncmap (causes all control characters to be escaped)
novj
nobsdcomp
nodeflate (header compression seems to cause packets not to get
through).
I'm not sure whether it's the IrDA subsystem or the phone that filters
characters, but still I haven't been able to get the phone to do ppp on
a windows machine either... I'll keep on trying.
Maybe a solution to problem 1 would be to actually limit the speed on
the cable to something less than 115200; for example 38400. I thought
I'd tried this before, but it seems that I changed the wrong lines of
code.
/Thomas.
