HowTo connect my Psion 5Mx with PPP over Irda.
 ____________________________________________________
 I use :
 - HP FIR interface connected on my Asus P2B (compliant infrared module)
        (Jpeg at http://www.ifrance.com/5-tux/irmodule.jpg)
 > [root@machine stef]# findchip
 > WINBOND,W83977TF,151.115,0x3f0,0xffff,0xffff,15,-1,1,0,1

 - Mandrake 7.1 with 2.2.15-4mdk kernel
 - Psion 5Mx with the same Irda configuration used with my Siemens S25
(Direct connection with no-script, Ip & Dns from server ).
 - irda-utils-0.9.9

1. Adding support for Irda :
 ____________________________________________________
# IrDA over a normal serial port, or a serial port compatible IrDA port
alias tty-ldisc-11 irtty

# IrCOMM (for printing, PPP, Minicom etc)
alias char-major-161 ircomm-tty
 ____________________________________________________
2. /etc/irda/drivers
 ____________________________________________________
Select the good option (eg. irattach /dev/ttyS1)
 ____________________________________________________
3. Device entries you will need to use IrCOMM:
  ____________________________________________________

mknod /dev/ircomm0 c 161 0
mknod /dev/ircomm1 c 161 1
mknod /dev/irlpt0 c 161 16
mknod /dev/irlpt1 c 161 17
  ____________________________________________________
 3. /etc/ppp/peers/psion
  ____________________________________________________

noauth
/dev/ircomm0
115200
crtscts lock passive persist silent
local proxyarp
netmask 255.255.255.0
192.168.0.1:192.168.0.3 # or anything else
____________________________________________________
5. /usr/sbin/psionIRDA [or in /usr/local/bin/ executable]
____________________________________________________
#! /bin/sh
irmanager -d 1
/sbin/insmod ircomm &&
/sbin/insmod ircomm-tty
# /usr/sbin/pppd call psion
# you can launch pppd with irmanager but you must kill it before use irpsion5
____________________________________________________
You can put /usr/sbin/psionIRDA in /etc/rc.d/rc.local to launch it at
boot. Configure Ip masquerading...
Reboot (launch pppd call psion if it isn't in psionIRDA)
Now, you can connect you Psion and use Web, Email applications or
EpocSync - www.freepoc.de - to backup files with FTP on your LinuxBox.
