All I can say is that I've tried it, and it sort of worked. I was using
a T28 with DI28 infrared modem, along with an Apple G3 Powerbook.
The problem was that after around 15 minutes of being connected to an
ISP, the IrDA connection would break. This happened both in MacOS and
Linux, so I blamed the phone. After the 15 minute disconnect the only
way to reestablish contact with the phone was to switch the phone off
and on.
A firmware upgrade for the phone helped somewhat, though now I have a
whole lot of new bugs to deal with on my phone. Sigh.
