Hallo,
I have no solution for your problem, but I want to give you some
information. I'm using a RedHat 6.2 with kernel 2.2.17, irda-utils-0.9.10
on a Toshiba notebook. Since Toshiba notebooks includes a new IR-Chip, a
new driver for this chip is needed (I got it from the author of this
driver: James McKenzie). With this driver I got the IR-interface to work.
There is still a speed problem, but it works. So your IR-device may work
with kernel 2.2.17. Did you do a websearch for a linux installation
description on your type of notebook?
Udo
