I did manage to sort out the pppd problem, there is support in the installed kernel for ppp. It seems that you have to make yourself a member of a 2 additional groups to use it, I can't remember which 2 groups it was but it is in the suse manual (I think it is dialup and one other). I am being a vague I know, but this is because I have giving-up with suse 7.0 as it seems to have lots more bugs. After you sort this problem out you will have other problems if my experience is typical. I would advise if you want a easier life to install a different distribution.I would recommend mandrake 7.0/7.1 or if you want to stay with suse maybe version 6.4, but I am sure they will be lots of different opinions from other members. If you want a copy of suse 6.4 or mandrake 7.0/7.1 I can burn you a copy. If you are still having problems you could always use wvdial (setup under yast(the text version) under networking/ppp).
