Dear Richard,

We have been working on VFIR Front End for over a year and are now coming
close to releasing a Vfir transceiver I.C . Until now we focused our
effort in the design of the transceiver itself . recovering 16Meg pulses
over such a dynamic range ( from Nose to Nose operation to over 1.5Meter
on axis ) gave us great design challenges. We are getting there in fact we
have VFIR modules working in our lab which still need some tuning to
perform well over different light conditions ( Fluo immunity , Background
light , nose to nose etc ).
I am now more concerned about the support from the digital point of view ,
sure the new VFIR module supports the 4MEG mode and below but getting
16Meg data rate in and out of the Data Bus is not going to happen by Magic
( PCI Bus ?) . I am not sure whether National , SMSC or some else is
doing VFIR support work on the controller side !

I will keep you posted

Cheers

Jean-Luc
