Some time ago I managed to get this chip in my Gateway Solo 2500 working.
Since i upgraded to 2.2.17 it is broken again.

This has probably to do that the NSC PC87338 reports irq=0 if asked in non-pnp
mode.

Ok the problem appears to be that the '338 has two
modes a PnP one and a non PnP one in the non PnP
one the interrupts are hardwired to 5/7 for the
parallel, 3 for com2 and 4 for com1, in this
mode the interrupt register reads zero. The linux
code is designed to read the chip in the pnp mode,
I'll send an email to the developer of the code
to let them know this is a problem. Meanwhile
your quick patch should indeed solve all the
problems.

take care,

James.

What do i have to do in order to get irda-suppport in 2.2.17 working?
