I have been fighting with RH 7.0 trying to make it
work with devfs and the lk 2.4 series. This is the
second time round the loop as I did the same with
RH 6.2 .

The /etc/securetty file no longer needs to be changed
but /etc/security/console.perms needs a different
patch to allow non-root users to start X:

--- /etc/security/console.perms_rh70    Tue Aug 22 21:19:33 2000
+++ /etc/security/console.perms Fri Oct 13 20:08:58 2000

 # file classes -- these are regular expressions

+<console>=tty[0-9][0-9]* vc/[0-9][0-9]* :[0-9]\.[0-9] :[0-9]
 <xconsole>=:[0-9]\.[0-9] :[0-9]

 # device classes -- these are shell-style globs

Hopefully this patch does not compromise security.

My page on devfs and scsi has been updated:
