There's a lot of duplicated code in the above.  Is it not practical to
revamp things in a way which avoids this?

Also, the multiple-return-points-per-function style which you have there
isn't particularly popular in kernel-land: it often results in resource
leaks and locking errors as the code evolves.

Nope, sysfs_remove_group() should not be called under spinlock.

Please always runtime test patches with the debugging options enabled - it
would have caught this locking error.  Lots of such suggestions can be
found in Documentation/SubmitChecklist.
