Copying between vfat <-> vfat partitions is so slow. It seems
that it's vfat/msdos kernel driver problem because I tried to copy
this file between few partitions (all these on the same disc):

hda: IBM-DTLA-307030, ATA DISK drive
hda: 60036480 sectors (30739 MB) w/1916KiB Cache, CHS=3737/255/63, UDMA(33)

hdparm settings:
/dev/hda:
 multcount    = 16 (on)
 I/O support  =  0 (default 16-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  0 (off)
 using_dma    =  1 (on)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 nowerr       =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    =  8 (on)
 geometry     = 3737/255/63, sectors = 60036480, start = 0

I tried it on 2.4.0 kernel, P166MMX, 96MB RAM, Soyo 5XB5 mainboard:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 430TX - 82439TX MTXC (rev 01)
00:07.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 IDE (rev 01)

File was about 700MB and:

vfat -> ext2 -- by whole time, copying speed was about 3,6-3,8MB/s
ext2 -> vfat -- similar results
vfat -> vfat -- 3,4MB/s at beggining of copying,
                2,3MB/s after 1 minute of copying,
                1,7MB/s - 2 min,
                1,4MB/s - 3 min
                1,3MB/s - 4   - about 45% of file already copied
                1,2MB/s - 5   - 51%
                1,1MB/s - 6   - 58%
                1,0MB/s - 7   - 63%
                1,0MB/s - 8   - 67%
                0,95MB/s - 9  - 72%
                0,91MB/s - 10 - 76%
                0,87MB/s - 11 - 81%
                0,84MB/s - 12 - 85%
                0,81MB/s - 13 - 88%
                0,78MB/s - 14 - 92%
                0,76MB/s - 15 - 96%
                0,74MB/s - 16 minute, 99% of file

so average speed is about 730kb/s only !!! I was copying under midnight
commander (4.5.51) so these speed values are from mc.

Patches or comments welcome.
