Another prolem (which may be related) is that XFree's sis-drivers is also not working
(but only because the sis301's LCD port is not enabled correct ... - Without a special
hack of me and the VESA framebuffer I get simply a black screen (NO crash ...). Only 
the
latest revisions of the SIS chip are affected by this problems. Older ones seem to work
(at least in X). (I only have this new chip ...).
