Maybe:

        increment = clamp(increment, -(NICE_MAX - NICE_MIN + 1), 
                                   , NICE_MAX - NICE_MIN + 1)

or add yet another define like #define NICE_RANGE
or #define NICE_MAX_INCREMENT
