Do you have a core dumper installed?
i.e. kernel.core_pattern begins with a "|"?
I bet if you remove the dumper. i.e. kernel.core_pattern = core, the
issue does no longer happen.
What dumper is installed?
I had systemd’s coredump. Issue still reproducible after `sudo sysctl
kernel.core_pattern=core`, sadly.
