I've see those lines many times before and this has worked for a whole
slew of laptops with the Chips & Tech. cards that I've tried it on... try
looking for a specific `I installed Linux on a Compaq 420CX and here's
how...' webpage if this doesn't work).

In your /etc/X11/XF86Config under:

Section "Device"

add:

Option "suspend_hack"
Option "use_vclk1"

I'm pretty sure that the use_vclk1 is the one that fixes the lines, but
you'll want both of them in order to get it to work "right."
