FreeBSD and how it compares with GNU/Linux

Contrary to one might think from following the popular media,
GNU/Linux is not the only free operating system out there. The *BSD
family of OSes are a proud and noble line of the Unix-type OSes that
merit attention. FreeBSD is arguably the most popular of the *BSD
branch. The goal of this seminar is to explain and demonstrate the
differences between FreeBSD and a standard GNU/Linux distribution and
explain why one might prefer one system over the other.

In case you have not guessed, this seminar will be given in ENGLISH.
If this seminar meets with strong enough approval, further English
seminars on more advanced topics (such as constructing VPNs with *BSD)
will be given by the same speaker.

Program
  * install procedure (special attention to dual-booting systems)
  * software packaging (the "ports" system)
  * file system layout
  * situations where one might choose one system over the other and
    why
  * history and philosophy
