I think I proposed "register"; what I indeed wanted to underline with that
was that it was added to an external data structure, and cannot be released
without that reference being removed.
"init" or "create" lack that suggestion, well, with the exception of
possible memory allocation. But that's not relevant to the problem at
hand...

This used to be at least allowed if not the preferred until recently. But I
agree we need to agree on the rules; earlier drivers just did what they
wanted to do. :-)

Sounds good to me. Such warnings tend to be a lot more efficient than
changing the documentation, whether in code or elsewhere.
