I did the same thing with the Intel 8080. It worked well with octal,
but hex didn't work out as easily.

According to my trusty, (cough, cough) dusty Scelbi "The 8080
Programer's Pocket Guide", the Intel version (IIRC) is LHLD with an
opcode of 2a hex or 052 octal. Back in the '70s, I had memorized most
of the octal opcodes for the 8080! I used to debug my programs by
looking at octal dumps.

Subject: kernel trouble
Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 13:09:00 +0400
I am using RH6.0 with kernel 2.2.5. Last night I applied patch 2.2.6. I got
a lot of .rej and it seemed as if the patch was older than my kernel as I
got messages like (previously applied etc). My kernel is 2.2.5-15 I don't
know what the 15 is for and I assume that it is before 2.2.6. After
recompiling the kernel, I lost vfat support even though I had marked it as y
when configuring the kernel.
Following the advice in the RedHat manual a did a make boot instead of make
bZimage and it gave me a Zimage and consequently my kernel was to big to
boot. Thank God I kept the old one in there just in case.
Where can I get the most complete info (I mean every single correct step) to
patch and recompile a RedHat kernel?
Can anybody give me some advice?

Hi,
I'm currently running Redhat 5.2, and am interested in upgrading. However,
I am a bit at odds as to whether I should make a lateral move to the
Mandrake distribution, which I have seen on the shelves everywhere. It
seems just as good and as easy to use as Redhat, while also being a lot
cheaper for the CD itself.
Can anyone give me some advice as to which distribution would be the best
choice? Please cc your response to my email address if that is possible.

Just remembered that, I had once unchecked "Confirm Connection" option
in modem-lights setup, and the Connected/Not-connected button wouldn't
work. So I enabled it again: it's a little bit inconvenient to pass thru
that "Do you really want to connect?" dialog box, but I couldn't (nor

No, he needs 117_v3, 117_v1a doesn't work on glibc-2.1 system like
RedHat 6.0.

Use System commandor to dual boot RH 6.0 and win98(FAT32). During I
install RH6.0, 'FDISK' shows my win98 partition is win95-FAT32, this is
correct anyway.
But after I install RH6.0, the 'FDISK' tells me both the win98 partition
and the swap partition are unknown type. Even I change the two types to
'b' and '82', after reboot, the 'unknown' is still there. But I can
mount the win98 partition by using '-t vfat'.
Now I really don't know if the swap partition is useful or not. How can
I check the info of swap partition?
And, anyone can expalin this('unknown' type) to me? also the solution?
Thanks a lot!!!

I use a Palm III with Debian Linux and it works beautifully. Try linking
/dev/cua2 with /dev/pilot ('ln -s /dev/cua2 /dev/pilot'). On my system,
the Pilot HotSync cradle is plugged into the first serial port (COM1) -
I always refer to this port as /dev/ttyS0 so I have linked this to
/dev/pilot. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the ttySx
designation for serial ports is preferable (don't know why).
I have:
echo $PILOTPORT => /dev/ttyS0
echo $PILOTRATE => 57600
BTW, I have abandoned using KPilot because it has a nasty bug in that is
will change the order of databases on the Palm during HotSyncs. I have a
financial app in which I keep a record of cheques I write, or cash I
withdraw etc.. and naturally an app such as this keeps tranactions in
date order. Every time I HotSync'ed the transactions would be muddled
up. Also it messed up the tab order of Launch'Em. I moved over to Pilot
Manager - not as pretty but, for me, just as functional. The Web site
is:
http://www.moshpit.org/pilotmgr/
There is a version for Debian, so I would imagine there will be an rpm
somewhere. Applix have also released a a new Pilot desktop app written
in Elf - available free from http://www.applixware.com. I have tried
this and it works fine. You might like the fact that it can read Palm
databases - at the moment the address book, date book etc..
You will need to make sure pilot-xfer works OK first. I am using v0.9.3
of the pilot-link package BTW.
Do let me know how you get on, and get back to me if the above does not
work.

tftp is rather slow, but if this is the "traditional" Xkernel, only the
bootloader is booted through tftp.
(tftp sends small packets and each packet needs to be acked before the
next is send)

Hi,
I use RH6 with Gnome. I have a dual boot system, and I have problems
with time, which means when I log in, usually I have to set the clock
right away using date -s. As soon as I press the return key, the machine
logs me out, then I log back in and the time is set OK.
However, I've just come back from a week's holiday, I rebooted the
machine this morning, then set the time as usual. The time set OK but
didn't log me out.
It turns out that I _cannot_ log out now - choosing logout from the menu
just has no effect whatsoever. How am I supposed to log out with hitting
the power button and trshing my filesystem. I could do a 'shutdown -r
now', but I don't want to shut it down, I just want to log out.
Any ideas?

No idea, unless it's actually reporting that a file that registrera
*uses* is missing. (eg the perl CGI libraries if you're using perl).

Of course it does... I suppose the message could also mean that
another, different program is using the serial port.
Probably not related to /etc/hosts though, unless neither you nor your
ISP are providing DNS services. Those entries are set in
/etc/resolv.conf. I'm not sure that pppd would try to connect to
localhost if it can't connect to a remote host.
