That's what you'd get if you typed 'halt'..
Looks like your default runlevel has been changed to 6/0

(whatever halt is on your flavour of linux)

try

'linux s' at the lilo prompt

Sorry? Netscape does that anyway, unless you've disabled it
(preferences -> advanced)

At least, it tries to..

Not only that, but kernel 2.2.17 doesn't exist yet.
Incidentally, has anyone else had problems with kde 1.91?

It's *very* ropey compared to GNOME 1.2....

See "Autologin with mingetty" in Issue 27 of Linux Gazette:

http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue27/kodis.html

Also look at:

"autologin" does what you want and works, I use it every day.

someone tell me where?

The most flexible configuration is to have a root partition only. You
don't need anything more fancy unless you a) want to get around the
1024 cylinder boot limit or b) need to make a more robust server
configuration.

Subject: Favorite POV-Ray modeller?
Date: Tue, 01 Aug 2000 15:46:29 GMT

Does anybody have a favorite POV-Ray modeller?

What I'm looking for is a graphical modeller, that lets me stretch,
bend, rotate, scale, lathe, surface, etc. All the basic operations of a
standard modeller. It must be able to write out POV-Ray objects, using
at least triangles and spline-triangles (the exact POV-Ray term escapes
me at the moment). Other POV-Ray primitives (spheres, cylindars,
planes, quadratics, etc.) are less crucial, but would be nice. The
ideal modeller would have a 3d view which you could rotate to any angle,
a user interface that isn't *too* clunky in which it was relatively easy
to select and group triangles and primitives, and (if I can really
dream) is possible to extend using one's own C/C++/Perl/whatever
routines. I'm looking for free modellers.

Can anybody offer any advice as to which graphical modellers for POV-Ray
are the best ones?

Thanks,

-Rob

You should suscribe bob to usergroup 38078 instead of setting his group to 38078.
/etc/group shoul say something like this:

[...]
users:x:bob,james,joe....
[...]
38078:x:bob....
[....]

The group of any user should allways be "users". For example if the user should
be able to use the modem, he/she should be member of group "dialout" too
(on Debian system). Chances are that the owner of "/dev/ttyS1" (modem
serial port) are "root.dialout" with permission "-rw-rw---" (660).
Making users member of specific groups, you give them access to specific
services. Debian works this way; i figured this out by myself (i hope i'm
not wrong about this), but my System (firewall+internet provider) works just
great with this way of "doing the job".

bye.

Check that extra RAM module. If Linux fails that way, there maybe
something very bad with your hardware. a bad ram module is fatal.
Once it happened to me but fortunately i got only segfaults.
My windows partition got 100% corrupt, after trying toi boot
windoze that time...
There is no reason for problems when adding more ram (unless
its damaged and corrupts data).

Enable ECC error detection in your BIOS.

bye.

Tell a2ps to send its output to a fill (say foo.ps). Then:

What happens when you feed this file to ghostscript (gs foo.ps)?

Next look at the file itself in a good text editor or with od (it will
be a text file) and check for the following:

Is the *very first* character a '%'? The first line of the file
(starting with the '%') should be something like: '%!PS-Adobe-2.0'. The
'%!PS' mandatory. The rest of the line is optional.

Look at the rest of the beginning of the file. It should have stuff
like this:

=====Begin typical Postscript preamble======
%!PS-Adobe-2.0 EPSF-2.0
%%Title: /home3/DonnasImages/M1.ps
%%Creator: XV Version 3.10a Rev: 12/29/94 (PNG patch 1.2) - by John Bradley
%%BoundingBox: 0 0 210 210
%%Pages: 1
%%DocumentFonts:
%%EndComments
%%EndProlog

%%Page: 1 1
=====End typical Postscript preamble======

(This is from xv, but a2ps should generate *something* comparable.)

After each page there should be a 'showpage'. Note: the showpage might
be embedded in some defined procedure, defined in the prolog.

If all of this is OK, the only other possibility is that a2ps is
generating level 3 PostScript or referencing a font that old LaserWriter
does not have. I just checked -- a2ps V4.10 generates level 3
PostScript, which the *old* LaserWriter probably does not understand.

makewhatis.cron updates the database used by the man -k (apropos) command.

logrotate.cron rotates the log files. This runs once a week (usually
Sunday morning). Files under /var/log are affected. The oldest (*.4)
is deleted, and each successively newer one is renamed: *.3 => *.4, *.2
=> *.3, *.1 => *.2, and unnumbered ones get renamed to end in .1. Then
the various associated daemons are HUP'ed (or whatever), and fresh
unnumbered versions are started.
