what is your current $_hogthreshold value? since your users are on athlon 1.1 GHz machines, you may want to raise $_hogthreshold a little higher than what Matthew suggested. also, if your dosemu sessions are running under X, it might help to change your $_term_updfreq and/or your $_X_updfreq values.
