Paolo, thank you VERY much. you got my cdrom drive going! woo hoo! i see
this list gets archived by dejanews. so for the record, i have an plextor
ultraplex wide (ultra scsi) cdrom drive. here is config.sys:

        DEVICE=C:\DOS-ALT\ASPI.SYS
        DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS-ALT\CDROM.SYS /D:CDROM0001

and autoexec.bat:

        PATH=C:\dos;C:\dos-alt;%PATH%;
        doskey
        lh C:\DOS\mscdex.exe /D:mscd0001 /L:E

and the relevent line in /etc/dosemu.conf:

        $_aspi = "sg0:CD-ROM"

i grabbed my dos from windows95.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

i've noticed that my mouse in general works under console dosemu, but every
so often, gpm goes haywire and the cursor makes a bee line to the upper
right corner. i can make the cursor leave the corner if i move the mouse
veeeerrrryyyy slooowwwwllllyyyyy. but the instant it goes to fast, BOOM.
it goes back to the upper right corner.

this is definitely gpm because when it happens, all my virtual consoles
suffer until i restart gpm or "reset" the mouse (see below).

i can "reset" the mouse by doing something to change the screen on one of my
virtual consoles. pressing enter a few times usually does the trick.
clicking one of the buttons sometimes does the trick too.

but invariably, after i "reset" the mouse, the problem happens again. and i
can reset it again. the only way to solve the problem completely is to
restart gpm.

i'm having a hard time figuring out what exactly is causing gpm to freak
out in the first place. sometimes it seems like if the mouse moves too
quickly the problem will appear.

but note -- this never happens while console dosemu is not running. in
other words, my mouse has been working flawlessly for the year and half that
i've been running linux.

one last tidbit of info. when i start x, the mouse pointer suffers in a
similar way. i'm a little confused by this -- gpm is for the mouse in
console, not X. then why would this have an effect on my X mouse cursor?

i have a logitech 3 button mouse with a ps2 interface. on the bottom it
says "m c48".   in xf86config, IMPS/2 is the protocol i use.   in
libvga.config, IMPS2 does the trick. i start gpm with
/usr/sbin/gpm -t imps2 -m /dev/mouse

any thoughts on the matter?

thanks!
pete
