I guess archiving with cpio is considered faster than tar.
You can write script like the following to do incremental daily backup:
find /diry1 -mtime -1 -print > file.lst
find /diry2 -mtime -1 -print >> file.lst
...
cat file.lst | cpio -ovcQ > /dev/rmt0
Of course, this will over-write the tape. So you got to have different tapes
for each day and mark them out : MONDAY ..
Also, you can replace 1 in the find com'd to give no. of days you wish to
take incremental backup for. And /diry1 is the file-system for which you are
taking backup. Also, you may need to go to single user mode in case you have
applications which lock the files when a user is useing the appln.
