ont the CD, in misc/src/trees/ :
mkboot
which will first run mkinitrd, to rebuild the initrd image.
all the code/data is in subdirs under here. these files are just shell
scripts, so you shouldn't have too much trouble understanding them.
you will probably have to experiment with updboots as well, if you want
to make changes to what is included on the boot disk. this is the normal
mechanism for updating drivers etc. that are required by the kernel
during install (i.e. to support a new network card model).
