Hi,

The syntaxe somebody@[IP.ADD.RE.SS] tells to the mail delivery program
to not resolve IP.ADD.RE.SS as a host name but to use it as an IP address.
If you send an e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the sendmail (sorry if it
is another agent ;-) ) will try to resolve IP.ADD.RE.SS as a host name
(like www.altavista.com), in that case, the host name is invalid, so it
won't work.

     Your error message :
>The specified address contains a host or domain name that could not be
>found by the Domain Name Server or local hosts file.
>user1@[202.xx.xx.xx]

seems to mean that the server you used to send the e-mail is not able
to understand the somebody@[IP.ADD.RE.SS] syntaxe (which is the case of the
Domino Server).

If you want to know who sent what, just check the header of the
e-mail. You will see what is the originator of the error message (in Lotus
Notes, it is a special field named $AdditionalHeaders, you might changed
the design of your forms to add and see this field, or ask your best Notes
programmer ;-) ). Normally, the postmaster originator message is sent by
the destination server and the MailerDaemon originator message is sent by
your local mail server.

To make sure it will work, setup your domino server to accept e-mail
to the IP.ADD.RE.SS domain (Global domain-Notes Domain and Aliases) except
if you did not disabled the relaying feature.

     Regards,
     Loic.

Currently i have set up a mail server (domino server) on my internal
network
with ip address 10.2.2.10. I am using linux firewall with external ip
address
202.xx.xx.xx and internal ip 10.2.2.1. I use ipportfw like this

ipportfw -A -t 202.xx.xx.xx/25 -R 10.2.2.10/25

The ip address of 202.xx.xx.xx is not register domain name to our isp. So
when
doing the testing i try to send mail to the mail server by using telnet to
port 25 of 202.xx.xx.xx. I can send mail to the internal user with no
problem.
But when i try to use my usa.net account to send mail, it say

[snip]
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Why?

I have check the accounting in the firewall and i saw the connection when i
telnet to port 25 (of course this is no problem)

I also see the connection on the accounting in the firewall when send the
mail
using user1@[202.xx.xx.xx] and also saw Domino mail Server record receive
the
connection but rejected the user.

I can see the connection on the firewall if i mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(without bracket)

Why?

What the different within with a bracket and without a bracket?
( [EMAIL PROTECTED] and user1@[202.xx.xx.xx] )

What the different if the return mail send by mailer-daemon and postmaster?

Why telnet to port 25 work but not by sending with mail user agent?

Thank you for all the help in advance.
