Timers at kernel level

Hi all,
        I am new to this mailing list... so u might find my question a
trivial one.But still.... I want to know if there is any timers
available for use at the kernel programming level( for use in device
drivers).  I am trying to change the waveLan drivers to intrduce error
control.

    Please let me know about any manual or web site where I can find
some info.
