Mikhail,
the problem you encountered is common with all unpatched versions of
gated when running Linux 2.1.x. There are siggnificant changes in the
kernel routing code since 2.0.x. A month or 2 ago i ran various tests
on this new code. It shows that the routing flags must be set to
distict values when deleting routes, even if the route in question
ist compeltely determined by destination and netmask. Gated doesn't
honor those flags in the required way, so it's not able to delete any
routes, even those that were previously created by gated itself.
This, in conjunction with the 'double route entry feature' (see this
mailing list some days ago) IMHO may be considered a bug.
I reported this to Alexej Kusnetzov, the author of the Linux 2.1.x
routing code, but he told me it's supposed to work like this :-(
