I don't know if this mail went to the bit bucket but I posted it
some time ago and I have not saw it in the list. Sorry if it's posted
twice.

Hi all,
We have a small lan of linux boxes using NFS and "traditional" NIS.
(ypserv-1.2.6, ypbind-3.3 and _no_ NYS in libc). Recently, we have got
a Sun Ultra 5 and we are trying to put this beast into the lan. In
the nsswitch.conf (Sun) we have changed passwd and group to compat
mode. Passwd, group and shadow has an +::::::: entry at the end of the
file ("traditional" NIS) Ypbind is running and I can see the exported
maps (passwd, hosts and group) that is, I can "ypcat" the server passwd
file but I cannot log into the Sun box. From the root account (Sun) I
can "su"to the other accounts (no password needed) but I cannot log
in as a ordinary user. I think something is wrong with password
autentification in the Sun side. Has anybody a network like this
running? -> Linux as a NFS/NIS server an Sun Solaris 2.6 as a client
TIA
PS: By now, we have no plans to migrate to glibc2 and installing
Ultralinux isn't the answer :-) (VxWorks/VME development is the
culprit)
