There are rumors that Xircom will provide developers kits with _full_
documentation (not only the bare chip descriptions what I got to write
the PCMCIA drivers). You will still have to sign an NDA about the
specs but you are allowed to write a GPLed driver.
My experience with Xircom's technical support is not very good and I
won't write any new drivers for their products even with the promised
better documentation. Save you a lot of trouble and keep your hands
off from Xircom products until they change their attitude.
BTW, the Xircom Ethernet cards do not have a very complicated design
so I think that Ethernet cards for CardBus or PCMCIA are a good
starting point for the free hardware project - much easier that the
Freedom CPU.
