what disturbs me is that i can get extremely good throughput in the
w98--->linux transfers with smbclient...
it's all the outgoing stuff that is affected. well, from my new tests today:
ftp linux--->w98 about 1.2 mb/mn
samba linux--->w98 about 1.6 mb/mn
smbclient w98--->linux orders of magnitude faster!!! (742 kb/s) that's
about what I was expecting the other way
Since I project doing evening backups thru a lan througput would be important, since I
can not afford to make people wait too long
(it'll be a 300 MB medical database, needs accessibility 24/24). Currently an NT box
(nearly fried btw) serves me the file in under
15mn, with the NT ipx/spx stack
Should I really expect better or does linux currently top at those speeds?
what throughput are you getting with your machines?
thank you again,
Max K.
