In general, you do not receive the packets you transmit on Ethernet.
You might well have succeeded in transmitting packets destined for yourself,
but...

[[ Most Ethernet adpaters can be put into loopback mode, but this is for
self-testing.  No Linux driver implements loopback mode directly, although
you can set "external" loopback in MII transceivers without kernel
modification.  Loopback mode generally disables external reception so it's
not very useful operationally.  ]]
