I need your experties help and comment on how to optimize the bandwidth
of my company. What may cause slow bandwidth.? We are using linux
firewall kernel 2.0.36 with ipport forwarding for incoming packet and ip
masq for outgoing packet. The firewall have 2 interface and the external
interface have more that one ip address.(use ip aliasing) We got about 5
external valid ip on the external ip address. The dns is run on the
firewall.

Currently, the network surfing is slow and outside people surf out web
page also slow. I have check with our local isp and from the graph that
they show to me, our lease line (64K) is ok. Did not reach the high
peak. Then i suspect it is cause by the firewall. What may cause the
firewall to be slow. We are running a pentium 166 MMX with 64M RAM. I
think this is more than enough and i check the memmory usage and the
processes on the linux machine. It is not high. So what may cause the
firewall to slow down the network?

Will the ip aliasing (about 5 aliases) on the external interface card
cause the slow down?

Will the latest kernel 2.2.1 help? or can you let me know what could be
wrong.

Basically the incoming rules is (part of it)

ipportfw -A -t 201.xx.xx.xx/80 -R 192.101.0.4/80

etc
etc

for outgoing is full allow.

Thank you in advance
