Apparently from his question he mentioned nothing
about IMAP so I didn't bother to give a solution
for that. The best POP3 configuration I would recommend
is cucipop, which can be found at:
1) ftp://ftp.fdt.net/pub/unix/packages/
2) ftp://informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/packages/cucipop/cucipop.tar.gz
