A simple way to do this that I can think of is to do this:
$ ps ax | grep pppd
This gives us the PID (Process ID) number of pppd.
And then kill the pppd process... example, if 'ps ax | grep pppd' gave:
8740 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/pppd -detach lock modem crtscts asyncmap 00000000
8860 2 S 0:00 grep pppd
Then, we'd know that PID 8740 is the pppd that we want to kill... and then
we would do one of these numbers....
$ su
Password: (enter root password)
# kill 8740
# exit
$ ps ax | grep pppd
You have to su to root because only root can kill pppd.... and you type
exit to return back to the user prompt.
The additional 'ps ax | grep pppd' just ensures that you successfully
killed the process.
