of the entries in /etc/hosts are in the 192.168.106.0 network.

If you have a single LAN segment, then you probably want to use a
single network for all of the hosts within it. If you need more than
254 addresses, then change the netmask to 255.255.0.0.

If you don't have a gateway, don't specify one. The script will not
attempt to create a default route if $GATEWAY is null.
