OK, I have my home network to the following point:
Machine A: Win 98, cable modem, Sygate
Machine B: dual boot Win95/Linux
Both machines have Linksys 10/100 PCI card, and each has static IP.
Two scenarios here, booting Machine B to either Win95 or Linux:
Scenario 1: Machine B booted to Win95
I have set the DNS and gateway to the IP of Machine A. I can open Netscape
or IE and bring up a web site by typing the URL. Also, FTP, telnet, etc.
work fine on Machine B.
Scenario 2: Machine B booted to Linux
I set the default gateway to the IP of Machine A. I can ping Machine A just
fine. I can also ping an IP outside my home network.
When I open Netscape and type in a URL, I get the message "Netscape is
unable to locate the server. The server does not have a DNS entry."
However, if I know the IP of the web site, I can type that in and the web
page opens just fine.
What do I have to do to allow loading a web page by the URL? I know it has
something to do with DNS, and I know the problem is not Machine A because
everything works fine when I boot Machine B to Win95.
Thanks in advance,
John
