Dear Siddharth,
append is usually used for detecting a second card
installed, since by default only one card is probed. Yeah, your second
option may prove beneficial, if ne2000 support is compiled as a module.
Basically the problem is with the signature as far as I can think of.
I would suggest Darshan to send details of the card.
He can also have a look at
Ethernet-HOWTO, sec 3.3 - Poor NE2000 clones.
