You guys may remember my recent posts:

"How to set IRQ of network card"

and

"Resolving domain names in Linux"

Well, both problems are gone and here's what I had to do:

The IRQ of my network card was being reported as 255, and I knew it should
be on 10. Remebering something I read somewhere, I went and disabled Plug &
Play in the BIOS and then the card worked fine.

The domain name resolution problem was a bit more tricky. I had set the
nameserver entry in resolv.conf file to point to the IP of my other machine
(which has the internet connection), and I could ping outside machines by IP
but not by URL. Then I read on the Sygate FAQ that if you have a cable
modem (which I do), you have to use the IP of your ISP's DNS, not the IP of
your internet machine. So I found out what my ISP's DNS is and put that IP
in my resolv.conf file instead of 192.168.1.1, and I can now ping
www.intel.com just fine. I can open a web site in Netscape by the URL, etc.

Those two problems together took me about 6 weeks to solve. Just thought
I'd share this info so some other newbie might save some time.
