Hi,

If this is the wrong list to send to, please let me know.
I'm trying to install redhat via ftp. The machine is on a private
network but has internet access through a NAT enabled router. Is this even
possible with the redhat installation system?
I've tried three different mirrors that I was able to to connect from
other machine on our network. I'm using only IP addresses for the site to
eliminate hostname lookup issues.
Our machine (running 98, NT, BeOS and Linux) have never had any problem
with using NAT or required any special reconfiguration, just changed IPs and
gateways). All sorts of FTP (active and passive) work through our NAT
router just fine.
In terms of hardware, the ethernet card is an SVEC PN102TX. I think
SVEC is a taiwanese company. Went to their site and couldn't even find this
card on their product list. In the installation program I'm choosing the
tulip driver to do the install. On the F4 screen the card is read as a
Macronix 98713 PMAC chipset card. I ran a FreeBSD installation via FTP (in
the FreeBSD installation you have a choice of FTP or passive FTP, I used the
former) to see if I would get the same behavior.
I also brought the computer to work which has a standard non-NAT router
and was able to run the redhat install just fine.
The usual error I get is that the installation program couldn't connect
to the FTP server or that it couldn't connect.
I tried non-anonymous FTP to a machine on the internal netowrk but that
didn't seem to work either.
On the F2 screen I couldn't ping or traceroute or ifconfig (guess it's
not on the floppy) so I couldn't tell what was working or not. The last
thing I see on the F3 screen was that it set up the interface with the
proper TCP/IP information. On the F4 screen the last few lines just
describe the card. Doesn't seem like errors.
I was once able to get redhat installed on an alpha behind a differnent
NAT enabled router (Netopia ISDN router) but I had to use some weird
settings. This installation program has different menus from that old one.
Does anyone know what I should be doing differently? Is what am doing
at all possible?

john.
