When I execute the command "ifconfig" it does give reports about both
"eth0" and "eth1" but strangely enough nothing on "lo" which is localhost
unless I specify "ifconfig lo"
Yes routing is set up.

I'll do my best, I have a router at my site that connects to the ISP's
router at their site.
The setup that I envision between my network and the Internet is that by
using private ip-addresses on my LAN machine they will get
to the Internet via my firewall/proxy server.
The external network card of the proxy server has a public ip-address,
while the internal card has an ip-address that is apart of the LAN
(private).
I installed a browser on the firewall and I can browse from the firewall
to the internet.
On a test machine on the LAN, when I put the firewall's internal
ip-address as the proxy server in the browser's configuration , I can only
browse to the ISP's web server which is on their LAN i.e it is behind
their firewall.
SO I was wondering if my private ip-adresses are leaking through the
proxyserver when the test machine tries to connect externally....just a
theory.
