How to gererate netmask for routingtable

Hi,

how can I generate a netmask for routing. At the moment I have a new host
with IP 172.24.108.98, right netmaks is 255.255.0.0, but in the routing
table I have till now a netmask of 255.255.255.255.

How can I change this entry?
