If u use Redhat 5.2 I have not tried 6.0 But I am assuming that this
will be the same..use the  netconf tool and the changes would be
permanent..

Actually all these are stored in files..The ipaddress for eth0 id stored
in ::

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 

Repeat the same for eth1 etc...

The /etc/hosts is essentially for routing purposes..
