ICMP error cause kernel crash!

Hello,

Could someone tell me how can avoid kernel crash when receive an ICMP
error.
It is normal this behaviour of kernel?
It is possible that was a hacking unsucceed attempt ( because it came
from the same very far address)? My kernel version is 2.2.5 - 22
download from RedHat.
