The following is my opinion, not my employer's.
As an authorized US Government procurement official who has handled IS
purchases, I believe the article was a bit inaccurate. The requirement is
for POSIX (and Y2K) compliance. Obviously, a number of US Government
agencies are using Linux, but POSIX compliance could be a sticking point
for highly visible procurements. The kernel README states Linux "aims
towards POSIX compliance." If Linux is fully POSIX compliant, this
statement should be updated. If it is not, the deficiencies should be
addressed. I may raise this issue at the upcoming SGI Linux University on
Sept 9 here in DC.
